Unable to connect to SSH

I am posting this on behalf of my customer.

Using Bitvise Tunnelier (http://www.bitvise.com/tunnelier), she is able to establish an SSH session. She is using password authentication. I did notice that there is ssh-rsa authentication going on as well as MD5 and bubble-babble keys are stored by the Bitvise for future SSH sessions.

When using iTest 4.0, he created a SSH session profile for the same IP address and port number and using "password" authentication. However, she is unable to establish SSH connection. iTest fails to open the connection and ends up with a "timeout" error.

There is no port forwarding or SSH tunelling.

Any ideas?

Password authentication is one of the most simple SSH authentication option and it usually works without any server/client configuration changes.

Can you check if they can connect using the putty ? Are they using any specific encryption option in their ssh server?

Knowing the SSH server will also help us to figure out what could be potential issues.

Thanks,

I tried Putty as you suggested and was able to SSH to the remote Linux box.

When you use putty, what ssh authentication options do you fill in?

I did not change anything on putty. Just left it as default.

Can you do a wireshark capture of the ssh session through putty and iTest and post it? It will help us determine really quickly what could be going on. When you do the wireshark capture, please capture only the interaction with the device to keep the capture file size small.

In the iTest.pcap, I do not even see a TCP connection request by iTest. Is this capture file valid? Can you try to get capture with iTest trying to start the session again?

Otherwise, I would have to conclude that you have not set up iTest session profile properly for iTest to not even attempt to make a connection to the server.

Looking at the server, it seems to be OpenSSH 3.9p1. I have the same server on my Ubuntu machine and I can connect to it using iTest without any problem. I would need the wireshark capture of iTest not being able to connect to the server to help you any further.

Hi Kumar

I started the session and took the capture. The session profile information is correct. Not sure why the tcp connection is not set up. I had shown the issue to Adeel.

Thanks,

Susmita

You can look at the pcap file you attached and can see that there is no TCP connection from iTest to your device in the pcap file. You may want to ask Adeel to get this capture if you are not sure how to capture it. If you are sure that you captured it correctly, it simply implies that there is a problem with ssh session profile. Some values have not been entered correctly. Can you attach your session profile here?

I would appreciate if you don't jump into conclusion about my ability to capture pcap. Please find the attached session profile. In case you want to check my setup we can arrange a webex sesion.

I apologize profusely - I did not mean to imply anything of that sort. It would seem like a breeze session with Fanfare support is in order because either it is a set up issue or a bug in iTest. Let me look at your session profile and see if I can notice anything out of ordinary.

Session properties do indeed look OK to me. Please set up a breeze session with the help of Fanfare support and tell them to ask for an SSH expert from engineering to be on the breeze to help them troubleshoot it.
