Unable to select "Insert FCS error" ?

Hello All,

I am trying to send packets with FCS error.

Default packets are L2/L3 packets are sent without any error.fcs.png

Whenever I select the option "Insert FCS error", it doesn't send any packets.

Always showing the following error messages.

6/15/2023 15:37:15 .9 Error Other Start Traffic 10 failed with error: There were 1 validation error(s); aborting apply.

Stream block (StreamBlock 22): The port (Port //1/1) does not support streamblock FCS error insertion..

Kindly let me know how to resolve this issue.

Thank you.

Hi @AswinAS, I'm surprised that you are able to select inject FCS in the GUI with v5.22. This should be disabled due to virtual chassis doesn't support it. I also tested in our latest 5.41 and I'm not able to set a check mark in the inject FCS check box. Also, here is an article from our Knowledge Base.

  • This feature is not supported on Spirent Virtual.
  • When STCv's Generator generates an ethernet frame, it has an FCS of all 0s.
  • STCv relies on the hypervisor's NIC to calculate and fill in the FCS.
  • This is why STCv does not support injection of FCS errors.
    • The check box has been disabled since v4.36.
    • Prior to v4.36 the check box is enabled but it will not inject any errors

But I suppose the bottom line is that it is not supported with Virtual chassis.

Hi @mnakamura,

Thank you so much for your prompt and detailed explanation on this.

Yes, It's allowing to select the FCS error inclusion and fails at the validation phase.

I will try to find other alternatives for inserting FCS error then.

Thank you.

It may depend on the module and application version. What is the name of the module and the version of the TestCenter application?
