How does EXIT_CODE_VERDICT_PARSING work on Velocity script assets?

In a Velocity manifest file, there is a field to configure how the overall test verdict is determined. Two of the options, EXIT_CODE and VERDICT_PARSING are mostly self-explanatory, but I'm not sure how the third option EXIT_CODE_VERDICT_PARSING works. Can anyone explain?
