Lateral acceleration limits the maximum bank angle in the horizontal plane.

From section 21.6.1.3 of SimGEN user manual,

21.6.1.3 Aircraft Accel Turn command

This command changes the aircraft speed and heading using a speed change, change in heading or direction and a lateral acceleration (in the horizontal plane) that, in turn, determines the rate of change of heading or direction. The duration of the manoeuvre depends on the vehicle speed. During the manoeuvre, the aircraft performs the speed change once it has achieved the maximum bank angle allowed by the lateral acceleration.

The aircraft banks to achieve lateral acceleration.

In this configuration, there is no sideslip. The lift force is perpendicular to the longitudinal plane of the aircraft and Spirent assumes it passes through the centre of gravity. As the bank angle increases, the component of lift force in the horizontal plane also increases and the aircraft meets the specified lateral (horizontal) acceleration by banking to a given angle.

Lateral Acceleration Units: g

Range: 0.001 to 30.0 g

Default: 1

Thank you @Rico Cheng ! What I exactly want is given the heading and radius of turn of aircraft, how to find the lateral acceleration. Also, do I need to vary the speed of the aircraft for proper execution of turn?

You need the velocity to determine the lateral acceleration.

a c = v2 / R

g = ac / G
