Failed to configure DLS 400E ADSL Wireline Simulator using RS232

Hi all,

I have a DLS 400E ADSL Wireline Simulator and I try to configure it using RS232 interface. It answers for the common commands like *CLS, *IDN? etc. But it returns error (red led and no text answer) for the request about slot status like :SET:SLOT 5? and for the slot configuration commands like :SET:SLOT 5,100 m,INLINE On the other hand it does something and answers for the LOOP configuration commands (which described in the manual for the American versions DLS 400A/H/N/HN). What I'm doing wrong?

The commands you are using are correct so when you set the card in slot 5 do you hear relays clicking? If you hear the relays in response to commands to set a loop then possibly the battery in the ram is defect if you cannot read the slot configuration. if you do not hear the relays being engaged when a loop is set then possible the card in slot 5 is defective. can you set any other card in the dls 400E? The user manual is available on the internet if you do a search for DLS400E. you can also download the DLS-1100 control S/W from the Spirent customer service website this is later S/W then the DLS400E control S/W.

Hi, don,

thank you very much for your reply.

Unfortunately I didn't hear the relays when I set card in slot 5 and the same situation is for the another slots.

But I hear the clicking of the relays for the commands like :SET:CHAN:LOOP ANSI_#3 and for the question :SET:CHAN:LOOP? I get the right answer ANSI_#3 .

I have the user manuals for both DLS400E and DLS 400A/H/N/HN versions and the command for 400E are not successful but for the commands of DLS400A with like :SET:CHAN:LOOP and:SET:CHAN:LINE I hear the clicking and I see the right answers.

My cage marked as DLS400E, I have opened the cage and I saw the cards for European version as described in the manual for DLS400E.

Hi, I have now the Control S/W for my DLS400E, but the configuration problem is not solved.

I try to communicate with DLS400E through the serial port using Control S/W and I get the next error:

"The device at IEEE488 address or serial port you specified is not a DLS400E. It's identifier string is DLS400"

In fact for *IDN? command from RS232 terminal I get the answer:

"SPIRENT COMM. INC,DLS 400,DL43089,108"

But on backplane sticker I see the label DL4-400E

What else can I do?
