I'm a longtime email user. What are some things I can do to include the Spirent Forums as part of my toolset?

Because of great growth rate of the Spirent Forums, I'd like to incorporate it into my routine without it overwhelming me with noise and questions that aren't relevant to me. How can I do that?

The good thing is that you can mostly continue to use your email. Most people need only a minute or two to effectively setup email usage. After that, you’ll start receiving emails whenever something appears in the Forums that match your interests. Those emails will link you directly to that Forums posting for you to read more or add your insights/contributions, and you can archive or delete those emails based on your normal email workflow. Those with a wide variety of interests or wanting more sophisticated filtering can invest a few extra minutes to capture your interests.

Follow your Topics of interest:

  1. A good place to start would be the product(s) you own or work with. Also consider topics relevant to your work, such as automation, IPv6, or XML.
  2. In the top right, click the Explore Icon (second from the right), then choose “Topics”. This brings up the entire list of topics, sorted by popularity. You can also sort alphabetically by clicking “alphabetical” at the top right just above the list of Topics.
  3. Click on the Topic you want to Follow, which will bring up the list of all Questions that are tagged with that Topic. To the right of the Topic name is a “+Follow” button. Click it, and you’ll start getting emails whenever something gets posted with that Topic.

For most users, you’re done! If you want to go further:

  • You can bring up each of the Topics and setup a bookmark/favorite on your browser for those specific Topics. When you do this, you’re “customizing” the Forum that appears to be only the Topic you’ve chosen.
  • You can filter for multiple Topics simultaneously by setting up browser favorites/bookmarks for those Topics.
  • You can customize your notification preferences by clicking your avatar image in the top right, then choosing “My Preferences”, then the “Notifications” tab. For most people, the default settings are perfect, but modify them to fit your requirements.
