"Network Based Application Recognition is the mechanism used by some Cisco routers and switches to recognize a dataflow by inspecting some packets sent." This is what you're referring too, right?

Hi Larry, Yes, correct. Customer enabled this feature at their router and wanted to test traffic via STC if any configuration option available for nbar. Regards, rishimenon.

Just think about what the NBAR function is looking for as attributes of the traffic and set up your Stream Blocks accordingly. From the Cisco definition, "The networking equipment which uses NBAR does a deep packet inspection on some of the packets in a dataflow, to determine which traffic category the flow belongs to." So you need to know what "deep packet inspection" in this context refers too. Sorry, I don't.

Hello, NBAR uses a combination of well known TCP/UDP ports and other more intelligent means to classify traffic. If you want just simple TCP/UDP traffic using well-known ports these packets can easily be created in STC. If the desire is more stateful protocols then you might want to look at Avalanche. Here's a good summary of NBAR that I found: [Cisco NBAR][1] [1]: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/ios-nx-os-software/network-based-application-recognition-nbar/prod_case_study09186a00800ad0ca.html Regards, ~Ken
