How To to create an abstract device in iTest Topology

I am looking for a way to create an abstract device to call in my procedures that will be inherited by several "implementation devices" which will be chosen based on a parameter. I know I can create abstract devices in my topologies, but the "Convert to Abstract" button is grayed, and I can't find any good way to make it work. The Help of iTest 4.3 is also not clear enough as to how this is done. Could somebody provide me link to a clear procedure to crate abstract devices and how they work, or telle me how it's done ? Thanks.

If you are not using iLO, then the button will always be greyed out. Are you using iLO? The simplest method for abstracting actions on devices is using Quickcalls regardless if you are using or not using iLO. If we think in terms of OOP, devices would be the objects and Quickcalls would be the methods for the objects. The Quickcall library is linked to the test case via the device's session profile. When the test opens the device, iTest uses that library to call the quickcall appropriate for that device. Using this method, your procedure is only required to call the generic quickcall and iTest will make the appropriate device call. Your procedure then only needs to know the session name. There are videos on the Spirent CSC that can help you with Quickcalls. If you use the Homepage in iTest, just click on the "Visit the Learning Center" link. The other option would be a quick webex with your local ITO SE. If you are not sure who that is, post your general location and we'll find him/her for you.
