Unable to view 'show interfaces' in a wireshark session.

As per the video tutorial for the wireshark session I created a new wireshark session profile and started it, however I am unable to start a capture and 'show interfaces' command does not give me any output

below is the output of when I try to start a capture.

Wireshark>capture start

No interface matching '2' found

Wireshark>show interfaces

Wireshark>

If I start a wireshark session with a wildcard * for the interface name I can start a capture however I still can not see anything when I fire the 'show interfaces' command.

I tried this 'show interfaces' command on 3 different windows machines it worked on 1 out of the 3 machines.

Below are the details for my itest machine:

iTest 4.1

Version: 4.1.3

Build: 59901

Windows7 Professional SP1

having 2 NIC cards Realtech & Intel (Onboard)

Kindly suggest how I could correct this issue also let me know if you need any more info.

Worked with support to find the issue. I had a much newer version of wireshark installed separately on the iTest machine. The problem was solved by first uninstalling wireshark and also uninstalling iTest. After this iTest was reinstalled and wireshark also got installed along with iTest. This solved the problem and I am now able to see the interfaces using the 'show interfaces' command.

Are you running as a limited-rights user? Wireshark requires admin privileges to access the network card. You can choose to start a service when installing wireshark/winpcap to allow non-admin users to scan the network interfaces.

In general you may need to run Wireshark from an account with sufficient privileges to capture packets, such as the super-user account, or may need to give your account sufficient privileges to capture packets. Only those interfaces that Wireshark can open for capturing show up in that list; if you don't have sufficient privileges to capture on any interfaces, no interfaces will show up in the list.

Please refer the below link for further info:

Hi Thomas,

Could you please attach the session profile that you have used for capture.

Thanks,

Venkata
